The Person in Me
Hi! I am Angeli V. Guadalupe. You could call me "Gel" (yeah, pronounced as in 'hair gel'). I am currently 21 years old studying Medicine in the University of the Philippines. I was born to two doctors; hence, my course. My parents did not force me into this but it felt like it was implanted within me even before I was conceived...in my parents' mind (that's how long-term they think, haha!). Since I was not familiar with other fields, I took the course keeping the reason in mind that I would help humanity one person at a time.
I was born and raised in the City of Davao, one of the cities with the lowest crime rate. But at the age of 16, I went to Manila (the capital of the Philippines) to take up 2 years of College then Medicine (I got into an accelerated program). It was there when lightning struck me, when visions of piles of trash blinded me. Why shall I restrict myself helping one person at a time when I can help one populace at a time? From then on, I wanted to be a global changemaker with the dream of making Earth (near) Zero Waste. When I was a kid, I thought of environmentalism as a "corny" advocacy. Back then, caring for the environment appeared to be so easy. But with climate change and global warming, it has become serious business now.
On the lighter side of life, when I'm exhausted thinking about the world's problems (haha!), I enjoy horseback-riding, badminton, tennis, Sudoku, karaoke (or any form of singing), dance exercises, reading, watching interesting TV series, and (for a medical student) the leisure of sleeping. I love my family and friends so much that I'm ready to take a bullet for them anytime.
